Our August Meeting brought our Chapter together for an important discussion on dementia and elder abuse, helping us better understand and support our members.
Thank you to our guest speaker, Harrison March, from the Heritage Area Agency of Aging. We learned about dementia and how it is an umbrella term for a range of neurological conditions that affect the brain over time. The disease impacts a person's ability to think, remember, and reason — often enough to interfere with daily life. Harrison shared ways to connect with someone living with dementia, giving us a better understanding of how to serve our members with empathy and the support they need.
Our meeting wrapped up with a discussion on elder abuse and common scams in our community, and how we can help educate our members to stay protected and informed.
